Queens Park Rangers Show Early Promise with Squad Depth

Queens Park Rangers’ brisk start has caught the eye, but one long-time observer is urging a little restraint.

Ian McCullough, QPR supporter and journalist, sees clear signs of progress underlined by Saturday’s win at Blackburn.

“At Blackburn at the weekend, they won the game through the strength of the bench,” he said, pointing to a key difference from last season. “They've got a real quality on the bench that they didn't have last season. In that kind of side the club has progressed.”

The depth has changed the feel around the squad. Games that once drifted away from QPR now look winnable late on, with options able to come on and tilt the contest.

McCullough, though, is not getting carried away, and he doesn’t think others should either. The fixture list has been kind and he is adamant that context matters.

“But as I keep saying with QPR, they've played three teams really that they should be beating – Blackburn, Portsmouth, Bolton. Had they lost any of those games, questions would be asked.”

Early encouragement, then. Real signs of growth. But the real examination of this QPR side is still to come.
