Premier League Giants Target Key Transfers: Scott, Gusto, and Bowen
The window has not exploded into life yet, but the biggest clubs in England are already moving their pieces. Midfields are being rebuilt, full-backs reimagined, and the first shots of a summer arms race are being fired.
At the centre of it all: a 22-year-old in Bournemouth’s engine room, a flying right-back at Chelsea, and a Lille forward suddenly on every scout’s laptop.
United and Arsenal converge on Alex Scott
Alex Scott has gone from promising youngster to £60 million target in the space of a season, and the queue is forming fast.
Manchester United and Arsenal are both tracking the Bournemouth midfielder, according to The Daily Mail, with United’s interest particularly sharp as they look to reshape the middle of the pitch. Plans are in motion at Old Trafford to move on Manuel Ugarte, and Scott has emerged as a leading candidate to refresh a unit that has looked heavy and predictable.
Bournemouth know exactly what they have. Scott was one of the Cherries’ standout performers last season, a calm presence in possession with the legs to press and the courage to take the ball in tight spaces. They are pushing to tie him down to a new contract and will demand a fee in the region of £60m before even thinking about letting him go.
For Arsenal, the appeal is obvious. A young, homegrown midfielder who can operate in multiple roles and fit seamlessly into Mikel Arteta’s possession-heavy game. For United, it’s about energy and control in a department that has lacked both. One player, two very different projects, and a price that ensures Bournemouth will not be bullied.
City eye Malo Gusto as Walker’s heir
On the blue side of Manchester, attention has turned to the right flank.
Manchester City are looking closely at Chelsea right-back Malo Gusto, with Nicolo Schira reporting that the 23-year-old has emerged as a serious option. The Frenchman joined Chelsea for £30m in January 2023 and has quickly built a reputation as one of the Premier League’s most aggressive, adventurous full-backs.
The intrigue runs deeper than just talent. Gusto could potentially reunite with former Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca, who is edging closer to being confirmed as Pep Guardiola’s successor. If Maresca does take over, Gusto would arrive already schooled in his positional play and demands, a rare shortcut in a notoriously complex system.
City see him as a long-term replacement for Kyle Walker. That alone says everything about the scale of the task. Walker has been one of Guardiola’s most trusted lieutenants, a defender who can live in one-on-one duels and still offer width in attack. Gusto brings pace, drive and the courage to play high and wide. City, as ever, are thinking two or three seasons ahead.
Liverpool and Newcastle clash again over Lille star
Liverpool and Newcastle are on a collision course in the market, and the next battleground could be Lille forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo.
The Daily Mail reports that both clubs are monitoring the 21-year-old, who produced 13 direct goal contributions in 29 Ligue 1 games last season. For Liverpool, he has been identified as a potential alternative to RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, whose €120m valuation makes any move a major financial swing.
The logic at Anfield is clear: find value before it becomes unattainable. Fernandez-Pardo fits that profile, a forward with end product and room to grow. If the Reds move, they could end up head-to-head with Newcastle again, after the Magpies beat them to the signing of Víctor Muñoz from Osasuna for €40m.
Newcastle’s recruitment team are not stopping there. They are also tracking FC Cologne winger Said El Mala, who has already drawn interest from Brighton and Brentford. With Anthony Gordon gone to Barcelona for €70m, the hunt for a replacement is urgent. Goals, pace, and versatility are the brief. Fernandez-Pardo and El Mala tick plenty of boxes.
Villa test West Ham’s resolve over Bowen
Aston Villa’s ambition under Unai Emery has been relentless, and the next name on their list underlines it: Jarrod Bowen.
The Athletic reports that Villa have made their interest known in the 29-year-old West Ham forward, a player Emery admires. Bowen has been central to West Ham’s attacking identity, a relentless runner with an eye for goal and a knack for big moments.
West Ham’s stance is predictable. They want to keep him as they target promotion back to the Premier League, but the door is not completely closed. Proposals around the £50m mark could drag them to the table. For Villa, Bowen would add another proven Premier League threat to an already dangerous frontline.
At the same time, Villa have drawn a firm line elsewhere. Sky Sports says the club have told Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain that Morgan Rogers is not for sale this summer. The attacking midfielder is viewed as central to their plans, and Villa are acting like a club that no longer expects to be raided.
Real Madrid turn to Enzo Fernández
In Spain, Real Madrid’s search for another marquee addition has shifted from the wings to the heart of midfield.
With Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise deemed out of reach, Madrid have turned their attention to Chelsea’s Enzo Fernández, according to AS. The 25-year-old is open to a move and is understood to be keen on living in Madrid, but sentiment alone will not move this one. Chelsea are expected to demand a fee north of €130m.
Madrid’s interest is no surprise. Fernández offers range of passing, intensity off the ball and Champions League pedigree. For Chelsea, who paid big money to bring him in, any sale at that level would be a major financial and sporting decision. One of Europe’s most expensive midfields could yet be reshaped again.
Chelsea close on Palestra as Álvarez pushes for move
Chelsea’s recruitment drive is not slowing. The club are closing in on a deal worth around €55m for Atalanta full-back Marco Palestra, with talks progressing well and an agreement expected soon.
Palestra, 21, was named Serie A’s defender of the year after an outstanding season on loan at Cagliari, where he made 37 appearances. Inter Milan had been in negotiations to sign him, but Chelsea have moved ahead and are now in pole position to land one of Italy’s most coveted young defenders.
Elsewhere in Europe, one of the summer’s biggest sagas is gathering pace. Atlético Madrid striker Julián Álvarez has told ESPN he wants to leave this summer, with Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal all circling. Real Madrid also had a €150m bid rejected last month, underlining the scale of the chase.
When a forward of Álvarez’s calibre goes on the market, the entire continent pays attention. Atlético hold the cards, but the pressure is building.
Record-breaking move in the women’s game
On the women’s side, Real Madrid have made a statement of their own.
Sweden forward Felicia Schröder has completed a major transfer from BK Häcken, with the Swedish club and her agent Linus Gunnarsson describing it as the “biggest transfer” in women’s history. The fee has not been disclosed, and it is not yet clear whether it sets a new world record, but the message is unmistakable: Madrid intend to be a superpower in the women’s game as well.

The numbers are already eye-watering, the names are getting bigger, and the dominoes have barely started to fall. Once the first major move lands, how many of these carefully laid plans will survive contact with the chaos of the market?
