Nigerian Forward Joins Ajax After Struggles at Old Gold
A year after arriving from Genk with the promise of becoming a key figure in old gold, the 25-year-old Nigerian forward is on the move again, this time to Ajax.
He leaves after 38 appearances and six goals for the club, three of them in the Premier League. His last league strike came in March against Brentford, a reminder of the direct running and penalty-box presence that briefly hinted at a larger role.
That role never fully materialised. Although he was involved on the final day of the season, he started just one of the club’s last ten matches, slipping down the pecking order as the campaign reached its decisive stretch. For a player in his mid-twenties, those numbers tell their own story: he needs minutes, rhythm, responsibility.
Ajax offer exactly that kind of reset.
The Dutch giants, wounded by a fifth-place finish in the Eredivisie, are rebuilding with intent. They must first navigate the play-offs, but have their sights set on the Europa League Conference, a stage where his power and mobility could quickly turn him into a focal point.
For Ajax, it is a calculated move: a player with Premier League experience, still approaching his peak, hungry to prove he belongs at the heart of a project rather than on the fringes of one.
For the forward, it is something simpler and sharper.
A fresh shirt. A new league. And a chance to show that those flashes in old gold were only the beginning.
