Mohammed Fuseini Returns to Training After Violent Robbery

Union Saint-Gilloise forward Mohammed Fuseini has returned to training after being the victim of a violent street robbery in Brussels, an attack captured on a mobile phone by a team-mate walking just behind him.

The footage, filmed last Sunday, shows the moment several individuals set upon Fuseini and two companions as they made their way to their vehicle. The video, quickly passed to authorities, allowed police to identify suspects at speed and launch an immediate investigation.

Union confirmed Fuseini’s condition after he was taken to hospital for checks, stressing both the shock of the incident and the limited physical damage.

“The footage from last Sunday is particularly disturbing. He subsequently went to the hospital for a check-up and received excellent care from the Brussels police, whom we warmly thank for their outstanding work. His injuries are minor, and he resumed training yesterday,” the club said.

For a player already fighting his way back from a stop-start season, it is a brutal off-field twist. Fuseini, a popular figure in the dressing room, has scored 14 goals in 71 appearances for RUSG and is under contract until 2028. Muscle, ankle and hamstring problems had already cost him 25 matches over 145 days during the 2025-26 campaign. Just as his body began to cooperate again, trouble found him in the street.

Suspect remanded after stolen items recovered

The Brussels Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that a 23-year-old suspect has been remanded in custody at Haren prison after police recovered stolen items at his home.

“Three individuals fell victim to a violent robbery while heading to their vehicle in Brussels. According to initial findings from the investigation, several individuals attacked them and stole various valuables, including watches, phones, and personal belongings,” the prosecutor’s office said in a statement quoted by Het Laatste Nieuws.

The suspect’s lawyer, Samuel Rosenblatt, confirmed his client is being held on charges of gang robbery with violence.

“I cannot say anything further about that, as the judicial investigation is still ongoing. My client is aware of the severity of the facts and regrets them,” Rosenblatt stated.

Investigators have requested an investigating judge, and the suspect – who reportedly has no prior criminal record – has been formally charged with violent gang robbery. Two of the three victims suffered injuries serious enough to cause a temporary incapacity for work.

Fuseini’s own wounds are described as minor, but the psychological impact of such an assault is harder to quantify. For Union, the relief is clear: their forward is back on the training pitch, rather than in a hospital bed. For the player, the challenge now is to park a harrowing night in Brussels and focus again on a career that has already asked him to come back more than once.
