Milan's Ambitious Move for Ruben Dias

Milan have drawn up an ambitious name for their defensive rebuild: Ruben Dias.

With Ruben Amorim pushing for reinforcements at the back, the Serie A club have turned their attention to the Manchester City centre-back, who has quietly slipped onto their list of potential signings.

The link is no coincidence. Milan have been working closely with super-agent Jorge Mendes throughout the summer, and the Portuguese representative has already been in the city for talks with the club on a range of issues. Out of those conversations, the idea of moving for Dias has taken shape, putting the defender firmly on Milan’s radar.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, initial contacts over a possible deal have already taken place, understood to be with Mendes. The 29-year-old’s profile appeals to the Rossoneri hierarchy: experienced, still in his prime years, and currently not at the peak of his valuation after two injury-affected seasons that have dented his standing.

That dip is exactly what Milan hope to exploit.

A bold idea, blocked by reality

The pathway is clear on paper. Mendes represents Dias, Milan want a leader in defence, and the player is believed to be on City’s transfer list. From a strategic point of view, the move makes sense.

Then reality bites.

City have already lost Rodri this summer and are reluctant to see another cornerstone of their spine walk out the door. Letting Dias go, even with his recent fitness issues, would mean tearing out another key piece of Pep Guardiola’s structure.

The financial side only deepens the problem. Any deal for Dias would demand a significant fee and a salary package at the very top end of Milan’s wage scale. For a club that has tried to operate with discipline in the market, matching City’s expectations would be a major stretch.

So the idea is there, the conversations have started, and the opportunity is tempting. But right now, for Milan, Ruben Dias looks more like a statement dream than a deal ready to drop into place.
