Luka Modric Commits to AC Milan Until 2027

Luka Modric Signs New Contract with AC Milan

Luka Modric, now 40 years old, has chosen to extend his stay at AC Milan, the club confirmed through official channels. The Croatian midfielder has agreed to remain with the Italian side until the middle of 2027.

Modric's previous contract ended on June 30, 2026, which made him available on a free transfer. Although he had said he would decide his future after the 2026 World Cup, he has now committed to continue playing, even as he approaches 41 later this year.

“Since his arrival, Luka has been a key player in AC Milan’s midfield and has placed his experience and qualities, both on and off the pitch, at the service of the team with humility and great passion,” the club stated on their website.
“The Croat, one of the best and most iconic players in world football, will continue his journey in the AC Milan shirt with the ambition of reaching new and important milestones. Modrić will continue to wear the number 14 shirt at AC Milan.”

This decision means Modric will be part of a fresh chapter for the Rossoneri under their new head coach, Rúben Amorim, who has recently been appointed to guide the team forward.

From Real Madrid to Milan

After concluding a remarkable era at Real Madrid, Modric joined AC Milan on a free transfer in summer 2025. He quickly became an essential figure in their midfield during his debut season in Italy.

In 37 competitive games for Milan, he netted two goals and assisted three times. At the 2026 World Cup, Modric appeared in all four matches for Croatia before their campaign was halted by Portugal in the round of 16. The former Ballon d’Or winner shows no signs of slowing down yet.
