Luis Diaz Backs Harry Kane to Win 2026 Ballon d’Or After Impressive Season

Luis Diaz Praises Harry Kane's Bid for 2026 Ballon d’Or

Luis Diaz, the Bayern Munich winger, has publicly supported his teammate Harry Kane as a strong contender for the 2026 Ballon d’Or. Diaz applauded Kane’s outstanding performances this season, highlighting his all-around abilities and consistency.

Bayern Munich Overcome Early DFB-Pokal Scare

In their first match defending the DFB-Pokal title, Bayern Munich defeated second-division side Osnabrueck 4-1. Despite the final score, Bayern faced an early shock when Robin Meissner struck a stunning volley from 30 yards to give Osnabrueck the lead within five minutes. Bayern quickly responded with Kane equalizing through a well-executed volley just 13 minutes later.

Coach Vincent Kompany fielded a strong lineup featuring Kane, Diaz, Michael Olise, and Joshua Kimmich, refusing to underestimate their opponents. Goals from Tom Bischof, Olise, and a late penalty by Kane secured Bayern’s comfortable progress into the next round.

Diaz Highlights Kane’s Versatility and Consistency

“He’s the best in the world, without a doubt,” Diaz told ESPN. “He proved it throughout last season and has been showing it for a long time. The truth is, he can do everything. I admire him a lot because I feel like he never does anything wrong.”

The Colombian added that Kane’s contribution goes beyond scoring. He praised Kane’s selflessness, saying, “He makes his teammates play, he runs, defends, scores goals, and he can also score from long range.”

Kane’s Historic Season Makes Him a Top Ballon d’Or Contender

Kane’s form this season has been remarkable. The England captain scored 73 goals and provided eight assists across 65 appearances for club and country. This tally includes six goals at the 2026 World Cup, where England finished third.

This goal count represents the second-highest in a single season since 2000, only behind Lionel Messi’s 82 goals in the 2011-12 campaign for Barcelona and Argentina.

“His mentality is incredible,” Diaz said. “So, for me, he’s one of the main contenders to win the Ballon d’Or. I hope he can lift it and that we can all be happy for him.”

Bayern Munich Look to Extend Their Winning Run

With Kane already scoring in the new season, Bayern aim to continue their dominant start in the Bundesliga. They will face Schalke 04 on Saturday, who recently returned to Germany’s top flight.

After netting nine goals in their last two matches, Bayern seek to maintain their attacking momentum ahead of their next DFB-Pokal fixture.
