Lorenzo Amaral Leads Brown to Victory Over Saint Peter’s

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — With the clock bleeding toward full time and frustration starting to creep in, Brown turned to the man who had been knocking on the door all night.

Lorenzo Amaral finally kicked it down.

The junior forward struck in the 86th minute, drilling home the winner to give Brown a 1-0 victory over Saint Peter’s on Saturday evening at Stevenson-Pincince Field, pushing the Bears to 2-1 on the season and a perfect 2-0 at home.

Amaral breaks the deadlock

Amaral had been the focal point of Brown’s attack from the opening whistle. He finished with a game-high six shots, five of them coming in a first half where Brown dictated tempo but couldn’t find the finishing touch.

The breakthrough came late. With the match still locked at 0-0 and Saint Peter’s hanging on, Amaral found his moment, slotting home his second goal of the season. The decisive strike came off tidy work from teammates Carlo Brown and Alex Sauerbrei, who combined to set up the chance that finally beat the Peacocks’ resistance.

Saint Peter’s keeper Sebastian Heredia-Randen had kept his side alive for most of the night, but he could do nothing about Amaral’s late finish.

Bears control the chances

Brown outshot Saint Peter’s 12-7, a reflection of the Bears’ territorial edge and attacking intent. The first half told the story early: Brown held a 6-3 advantage in shots, Amaral repeatedly testing the Peacocks’ back line.

The pressure didn’t ease after the break.

Midway through the second half, Mateo Pereyra forced Heredia-Randen into another save, a low drive turned aside that earned Brown a corner. Off that set piece, the Bears nearly broke through again as James Snaith unleashed a strike from the edge of the 18-yard box, only for Heredia-Randen to deny him as well.

The Peacocks bent, again and again. Amaral’s 86th-minute goal finally made them break.

New starter, clean sheet

At the other end, Brown handed a first career start to goalkeeper Graham Kois. He faced seven Saint Peter’s attempts and answered the only two that found the target, securing a clean sheet on his debut and giving the Bears a steady presence in goal.

Behind him, Brown’s back line kept Saint Peter’s largely at arm’s length, limiting clear-cut chances and allowing the Bears’ attack to carry the night.
