Liverpool's Summer Transfer Juggling Act: Key Targets and Departures

Liverpool’s summer is starting to feel like a juggling act. One marquee chase, a handful of smart side bets, a couple of possible exits, and a youth department being reshaped on the fly. No trophy on offer, but plenty at stake.

A Georgian teenager turns up the volume

The most eye-catching twist came from an unlikely source: the Georgian second tier.

Andria Bartishvili, an attacking midfielder contracted to Kolkheti Poti and on loan at top-flight side Iberia 1999, has found himself dropped into a Premier League tug of war. A social media account tracking Georgian players claimed the teenager has no agreement with Arsenal and could yet end up at Liverpool or Paris FC.

Bartishvili did nothing to cool it. He shared the post on his Instagram story, fanning the rumor mill and hinting that he knows his next move will be bigger than the league he currently plays in.

Wilson heads for Elland Road

One former Liverpool man is on the move.

Harry Wilson, now a free agent after leaving Fulham, is closing in on a switch to Leeds United. After a strong season, the Wales international drew interest from several clubs, but the pull of Elland Road looks set to win out. For Liverpool, it is another reminder of an academy product carving out a serious career elsewhere.

Musiala revels in Wirtz link

On the international stage, a Liverpool star is being enjoyed from the inside.

Jamal Musiala has spoken about the joy of playing with Florian Wirtz for Germany under Julian Nagelsmann. “I’m really enjoying it,” Musiala told GFNG, praising how well the pair combine and highlighting the relaxed, free atmosphere in the national side.

He talked about patience after injury, about pushing himself daily, and about backing his own quality without piling pressure on. For Liverpool, it is a timely endorsement of Wirtz’s growing influence on the biggest stage.

Bouaddi on the radar

Behind the scenes, Liverpool’s recruitment team has been busy.

Fabrizio Romano, speaking on Born and Red’s YouTube channel, revealed that Liverpool has already held two meetings over Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi. The club has been tracking him closely for almost a year, with price and Lille’s intentions still to be clarified.

Other heavyweights, including PSG and Arsenal, are circling. Liverpool’s interest is real; whether it becomes a bid depends on how the market moves.

Gakpo’s future in the balance

Not every established name is guaranteed to stay.

According to Football Insider, Liverpool would be prepared to accept a substantial offer for Cody Gakpo this summer. The Dutch forward’s second season under Arne Slot did not match the impact of his first, when he scored 18 goals, although he only signed a new deal a year ago.

The message is clear: he is not being pushed out, but a serious bid would be listened to.

Curtis Jones: wanted, but not for sale

Inter Milan has already tested Liverpool’s resolve over Curtis Jones. Twice.

The Reds rejected a second offer worth $29m, well short of their $47m valuation, as reported by the Daily Mail’s Lewis Steele. Liverpool has been left irritated by Inter’s approach, yet the door to dialogue is not fully closed.

Crucially, Liverpool is planning next season with Jones firmly in Andoni Iraola’s squad. For now, he is part of the core, not the clearance.

Diomande: the saga at the top of the list

The headline pursuit is Yan Diomande.

Steele reports that the 19-year-old “definitely” wants a move this summer and is frustrated by the pace of negotiations, which his camp initially expected to be swift. The deal may now drag on until after the World Cup.

RB Leipzig is holding firm at a $148m (€130m) valuation and knows it may still have to sell. Liverpool has already seen a first offer of around $115m (€100m) turned away. The Athletic claims Leipzig would consider a higher bid above that $148m mark.

Despite the stand-off, Steele is adamant: he believes Liverpool will get this one done.

In France, MediaFoot goes further. It claims PSG has “thrown in the towel” over Diomande, with football advisor Luis Campos said to have spoken with both Leipzig and the player before walking away from a bidding war. The outlet also reports that Liverpool has reached an agreement with Diomande’s representatives, leaving only a fee with Leipzig to be finalised.

Nothing is signed. But the path, for now, looks red.

Barcola opportunity emerges

While Diomande dominates the headlines, another winger could yet come into play.

Fabrizio Romano reports that negotiations between PSG and Bradley Barcola are “completely on standby”. That pause opens a potential lane for Liverpool or Arsenal, both of whom have the France international on their winger shortlists.

Liverpool, having already shortlisted Barcola last year, is keeping a close watch. Romano calls the situation “absolutely open”, dependent on PSG’s next move.

Palestra: one that got away

Not every opportunity has been seized.

Ben Jacobs reports that Marco Palestra was offered to Liverpool before Chelsea hijacked Inter Milan’s bid for the Atalanta full-back. The 21-year-old is now set for Stamford Bridge, with a $57m (€50m) deal agreed and the player choosing Chelsea over Inter.

Liverpool and Arsenal were sounded out as a Premier League destination before Chelsea made its decisive move.

Alternatives and a brewing rivalry with Newcastle

Liverpool’s recruitment team is not betting everything on Diomande.

The Athletic lists Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh and Cologne’s Said El Mala among the alternatives drawn up if Leipzig refuses to budge. Lille’s Matias Fernandez-Pardo is another name in the frame.

Newcastle, still smarting after Liverpool hijacked their move for Victor Munoz last week, is tracking El Mala and Fernandez-Pardo as well. The transfer market has become a sub-plot in a growing rivalry between the two clubs.

Youth on the move

The reshaping of the squad runs deep into the academy.

The Athletic reports that Liverpool is ready to sanction loan moves for seven youngsters. Trey Nyoni is under consideration for a temporary switch, though a final call will come later in the summer.

Goalkeeper Armin Pecsi, defenders Luke Chambers and Amara Nallo, midfielder James McConnell and winger Kieran Morrison are all expected to head out for regular senior minutes. Left-back Owen Beck, recovering from injury, will stay put.

New signing Ifeanyi Ndukwe, arriving this summer after a deal was agreed in January, is also likely to go straight out on loan, despite not yet playing for the club.

Fernandes checked, but costly

Liverpool has also done its homework on another Premier League midfielder.

Romano says the club contacted West Ham about Mateus Fernandes two weeks ago to clarify his situation and the conditions of a possible transfer. No bid followed, and no formal talks have been opened.

The reason is obvious: Fernandes is expected to cost more than $112m (£85m), a figure not far off Liverpool’s offer for Diomande. Manchester United and Tottenham are described as “busy” with the deal, while Liverpool keeps its powder dry.

Heskey’s verdict on Diomande

For former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey, Diomande is not just a luxury target. He is a solution.

Speaking to Liverpool.com on behalf of OLBG, Heskey described the winger as “a very, very attractive player” and the kind of wide forward the club has been missing since Luis Diaz, sold to Bayern Munich a year ago.

He pointed back to the era of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané, then Diaz’s ability to play wide and through the middle. In Heskey’s eyes, Diomande offers that same versatility, with the added bonus of relentless work rate and recovery runs.

“He’s super quick and direct,” Heskey said, “which is exactly what we need and what we’ve been missing.”

Liverpool’s summer, then, is shaping up around one central question: can they land the player they believe will redefine their attack, while keeping the rest of the puzzle intact?
