Liverpool's Need for a Right Winger: Carragher's Warning

Jamie Carragher has warned that Liverpool are “desperate” for a specialist right winger and questioned the club’s reported pursuit of Bradley Barcola as a potential Mohamed Salah successor.

With negotiations under way between Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain for Barcola, the former Reds defender made it clear he does not see the 21-year-old as the answer on Salah’s flank.

Asked on X by Sky Sports whether Barcola could replace Salah on the right, Carragher’s response was blunt: “No, he plays on the opposite flank!”

That is the heart of his concern. In Carragher’s eyes, Liverpool are stockpiling options off the left while leaving a glaring vacancy on the right, the zone Salah has dominated for years.

“LFC currently have three players who could play from the left in Rio/Gakpo/Wirtz & no one who plays from the right,” he wrote, highlighting what he sees as an imbalance in the squad’s attacking profile.

For Carragher, the equation is simple. If Liverpool are planning for life after Salah, the next major signing cannot be another left-sided forward. It has to be someone who lives on the right touchline, not someone asked to learn it on the job.
