Liverpool Fans Demand Clarity Over Jeff Bezos’ Proposed Stake in Club

The Liverpool supporters group, Spirit of Shankly, has called for clear answers from Fenway Sports Group after reports linked Amazon founder Jeff Bezos with a significant minority investment in the Premier League club.

Fans Request Meeting Over Potential Ownership Changes

Following widespread news that a consortium involving Bezos is close to acquiring around 30 percent of Liverpool, the influential fan group has formally asked for an urgent meeting with club officials. They want to understand how this stake sale could affect ownership and control at Anfield, especially regarding football operations.

Spirit of Shankly Emphasizes Protecting Club Values

The group stated their main concern is safeguarding the club’s core principles amid takeover rumors. They stressed that knowing who owns the club and how decisions are made is critical for fans.

“Given the events that led to FSG’s purchase of the club, who owns it and how they control it—putting the interests of LFC and its supporters first—is fundamental to us all,” said SoS. “The latest report of a 30% sale and the consortium set up to buy it is significant. The ownership and custodianship of our club is paramount to SoS and all supporters.”

They also pointed out that similar minority sales at other clubs have brought unwanted changes in management and football decisions, something they hope to avoid at Liverpool.

Consortium’s Wealth vs. Sports Experience

Jeff Bezos, with an estimated fortune of £210 billion, owns assets like The Washington Post and Blue Origin but has no previous sports team investment experience, despite some NFL connections. He is part of a high-profile group that includes Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin.

The consortium is led by Amit Bhatia, known for his sports background as former co-owner and director of Queens Park Rangers. Bhatia brings relevant experience, having been involved in football club operations for 18 years before recently stepping down.

FSG Open to Minority Investment Amid Rising Club Value

Fenway Sports Group, Liverpool’s parent company, has always been open to outside investment. The club’s value surged from £300 million in 2010 to approximately £4.5 billion today. Last month, FSG confirmed interest from the consortium led by Bhatia for a strategic minority stake.

Fans now wait for official details on boardroom influence and voting rights before any deal finalizes.
