Liverpool Eyes Bradley Barcola as Arsenal Pursues Morgan Rogers

Aston Villa’s winger hunt has blown the summer market wide open – and Liverpool could be the ones to cash in on the chaos.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Villa have started work on signing a new “top winger” as they juggle deals for Manzambi, João Gomes and Pervis Estupiñán. The key detail sits elsewhere, though: Arsenal are now expected to “accelerate” their move for Morgan Rogers, with talks already advanced on the player side.

That single shift changes the landscape for one of the most coveted wide forwards in Europe.

Arsenal turn to Rogers, Barcola lane clears

Romano reported on Thursday night that Arsenal view Rogers as a top target for the flank and are ready to attack the deal. The move is not linked to Christos Tzolis, with the Gunners having long planned to pursue both players.

Crucially, there have been “no talks for Barcola so far” from Arsenal. Their focus is Rogers.

For Liverpool, that matters. With Aston Villa looking elsewhere and Arsenal committing their energy to the England international, the path towards Bradley Barcola looks far less congested. On paper, Andoni Iraola’s side now have a clear run at the France international.

One major obstacle remains: Paris Saint-Germain’s price.

PSG’s price tag looms large

Liverpool have been repeatedly warned it will take a significant fee to persuade PSG to part with Barcola, who operates primarily off the left and fits the profile of a long-term frontline piece.

The European champions hold all the leverage. Barcola is young, ascending and already trusted at the highest level. That combination rarely comes cheap, and PSG have no need to sell on the cheap to anyone, least of all a Premier League heavyweight.

Liverpool, for now, have played a patient game. Beyond the arrival of Victor Munoz, the club have kept their powder dry in this window. The World Cup has undoubtedly complicated negotiations and timelines across the market, but the sense around Anfield is that something more calculated is at play.

It feels like everything is being held up by one decision.

Liverpool’s gamble on timing

The working theory is simple: Liverpool’s recruitment team want a clear picture of what it will cost to land Barcola before committing serious funds elsewhere. If Barcola is the top offensive target, the rest of the summer has to be built around that number.

That approach carries risk.

If PSG’s final demand sits beyond Liverpool’s ceiling, the club face a brutal scenario – weeks of waiting, only to walk away and scramble for alternatives with the deadline looming on 1 September. The squad still needs attacking depth. The calendar will not slow down to help them find it.

By this stage, Richard Hughes and his staff should have a strong sense of PSG’s expectations and of Liverpool’s own financial red line. The gap between those two figures will define the rest of the window.

The opportunity is obvious. So is the danger.

Arsenal are tied up with Rogers. Aston Villa are looking in a different direction. The lane to Barcola has rarely looked clearer. The question now is whether Liverpool are prepared to pay the going rate for a forward who could shape their next era – or whether this long, careful wait ends with someone else stepping in and taking him instead.
