Macaulay Tait Joins St Johnstone: A New Chapter

Macaulay Tait has swapped maroon for blue and white, and he is not shy about what he is bringing with him to Perth.

The 20-year-old midfielder has left Hearts on a permanent deal to join St Johnstone, signing a two-year contract at McDiarmid Park after two loan spells with Livingston sharpened his game for the demands of the Premiership.

This is not a marquee, headline-chasing transfer. It is a young player backing himself, and a club backing his willingness to graft.

Tait came through the Hearts academy and broke into the first team, making 16 appearances for the Tynecastle side. Those minutes mattered. So did the pride at home.

"That was nice for myself and my family," he reflected, a nod to the journey already travelled rather than a player clinging to what he has left behind.

The real acceleration came at Livingston, where an 18‑month stint toughened him up and pushed his development on. He is clear about that.

"I can't thank them enough for progressing my career," he said, underlining that those loan spells were a launchpad, not a holding pattern.

Now the focus is on Saints, and on a club Tait believes is heading in the right direction.

"I felt it was the right place to continue my journey. The club has momentum coming into the top-flight, and it seems a really positive place to be. The boys play good football and I'll just be looking to come in and add to that."

There is no talk of guarantees, no promises of instant stardom. Instead, there is a simple pledge to run, to tackle, to do the bits that rarely make the highlight reels but win managers’ trust and tilt matches.

"I'll be hard-working and run for this team as much as I can. Hopefully I can bring quality on the ball and give the attacking players the service to do their stuff. I'm happy to do the dirty work."

For St Johnstone, that attitude is the attraction. For Tait, this is the moment to turn potential and loan spells into something more permanent: a regular Premiership role, earned the hard way.
