When asked if fans saw Yamal at his best, Lewandowski responded to ESPN, “Honestly, no, we didn’t. The best version of Lamine for me wasn’t last season but two seasons ago.” He noted how difficult it is to come back from an eight-week injury break and jump straight into World Cup matches with little time for training. Still, Lewandowski highlighted Yamal’s quality and how well the team supported him. “This cooperation was perfect,” he said.

With Poland missing out on the tournament, Lewandowski admitted he cheered for Spain in the final, largely because of his close ties to many players from his Barcelona days. “I know a lot of players from Spain and spent so much time in Barcelona with them, so I supported them a lot,” he explained. He only personally knows Lionel Messi from Argentina but chose to back Spain because of those strong friendships and time spent together.

Lewandowski has started a new chapter in Major League Soccer with Chicago Fire, debuting against Inter Miami CF.
