Robert Lewandowski Praises Barcelona's Rodri Signing and Reflects on Emotional Camp Nou Departure

Lewandowski Supports Barcelona's Acquisition of Rodri

Robert Lewandowski, now playing for Chicago Fire in Major League Soccer, has expressed strong approval of Barcelona's recent signing of Spanish midfielder Rodri from Manchester City. The veteran forward believes Rodri will add much-needed experience and leadership to coach Hansi Flick's squad.

Having left Camp Nou after a four-season spell, Lewandowski acknowledged the leadership gap his departure created within the team. Recognizing this, Flick prioritized bringing in Rodri to fill that void with his tactical expertise and consistency at top levels.

Why Rodri Fits Barcelona's Needs

Speaking to Radio Marca, Lewandowski explained why Rodri suits the club perfectly. He highlighted Rodri's understanding of the team's requirements, both offensively and defensively. According to Lewandowski, Rodri’s experience performing consistently on major international stages makes him exactly what Barcelona needs now.

"He’s a player who knows what the team needs, how to play going forward, but also how to contribute a little more in defence," Lewandowski said. "He’s an experienced player I think this team needs. He’s been performing at the highest level not just at the World Cup, but for many years now."

Lewandowski Reflects on His Time at Barcelona

Lewandowski recalled his own time at Barcelona, which began in 2022 after transferring from Bayern Munich. During those four seasons, he helped secure three La Liga titles and earned the coveted Pichichi trophy. Despite the success, he felt it was time for a new challenge.

"It was a very special four years for me in Barcelona," he said. "But there comes a time when you have to try something different and take a new step, and I’m very happy now."

Adjusting to Life in the United States

The move to MLS marked a significant cultural and sporting shift for Lewandowski. He admitted adapting to life outside Europe takes patience and time.

"It’s normal [to need time], not only because I’m leaving Europe, but also because I’m moving to the United States," he added.

Remaining Supportive from Afar

Though settling into Chicago, Lewandowski keeps a close eye on Barcelona's progress under Flick, especially with Rodri now a key figure in midfield.

"I’m not a very emotional person, I’m more cold-hearted, but this is a moment when I’ll always be there to support and help FC Barcelona and my former team-mates," Lewandowski said. "I’m watching what’s happening now and I’m sure they’re going to win a lot of games."

Barcelona will be hoping Rodri helps them continue their winning ways as they integrate him fully into their starting lineup.
