Leipzig Moves Closer to Nkunku Reunion as Newcastle Lurks

RB Leipzig are closing in on a familiar face. The Bundesliga club have reached a preliminary agreement with Milan to bring Christopher Nkunku back to Saxony in the current window.

The outline of the deal is clear: a paid loan worth around €3 million, with a purchase option set at roughly €27 million, according to Foot Mercato. Nothing is signed. Not yet. Leipzig still have to strike a deal with the France forward on personal terms before anything can be wrapped up.

For Leipzig, this is about rewinding the tape. Nkunku’s explosive rise came in their colours, and they want to revive that partnership after a Milan spell that never truly caught fire. The Italian side, for their part, are working out the cleanest way to move him on and rebalance their squad.

Newcastle push for permanent deal

Newcastle United have not stepped aside. Far from it. The Premier League club remain firmly in the race for Nkunku and are continuing talks with both Leipzig and the player’s camp.

Their angle is different. Newcastle are pushing for a straight permanent transfer rather than a loan with a later buy option. That stance could shift the dynamic of the negotiations.

A guaranteed sale now may appeal more to Milan than a staggered deal that delays the bulk of the fee. If Newcastle put a convincing permanent offer on the table, it hands them a clear lever: immediate money versus Leipzig’s more cautious structure.

So Nkunku stands at a crossroads. Leipzig offer a return to the stage where he shone brightest. Newcastle offer the pull of the Premier League and a clean, outright move.

The agreement between Leipzig and Milan has opened the door. Newcastle’s next move will decide how crowded that doorway becomes.
