Lazio Target Fikayo Tomori for Defensive Reinforcement

Lazio are circling around an unexpected summer opportunity, with Fikayo Tomori emerging as a serious target for Gennaro Gattuso’s rebuild. Il Messaggero, via LaLazioSiamoNoi, reports that the Biancocelesti have identified the Milan center-back as a priority option to bolster their defense.

Tomori’s situation at San Siro has deteriorated quickly. New Milan coach Ruben Amorim has pushed the Englishman to the margins of his project, a decision that reflects a difficult 2025/26 campaign. Tomori featured 33 times in Serie A last season, yet rarely convinced. For a player who arrived from Chelsea in 2021 and once looked like a long-term pillar of the Rossoneri back line, the drop-off has been stark.

Milan, fresh from bringing Mario Gila in from Lazio, are now ready to listen to offers for Tomori. His contract runs out at the end of next season, and with Premier League interest cooling, his future has drifted into uncertainty. This is where Lazio sense an opening. They can offer Tomori a way out – and they may already hold the key to unlocking a deal.

Swap on the table?

Milan’s left flank has become a problem. Pervis Estupiñán struggled in his first Serie A season, forcing the club to scan the market for a new left-back. One name has climbed to the top of their list: Lazio’s Nuno Tavares.

The dynamic is obvious. Lazio want Tomori. Milan like Tavares. Both clubs have needs, both are working under constraints, and both know time is ticking on Tomori’s contract.

Lazio’s budget is tight. They cannot simply throw money at Milan. A player-plus-cash formula, with Tavares included, could suit everyone: Gattuso gains an experienced center-back without a huge outlay, while Milan reshape their left side and avoid losing Tomori for nothing in 12 months.

From Milan’s perspective, the logic is ruthless but clear. Either they cash in now or they watch a once-valuable asset walk away for free next summer. Given those stakes, and the mutual interest in each other’s players, this is no longer just a speculative whisper. It looks like the kind of Serie A trade that can actually get done – if both clubs are brave enough to pull the trigger.
