Kylian Mbappé Scores Again in Champions League Opener

Kylian Mbappé has hit the new season at full sprint and never looked back.

The Real Madrid forward made it five goals in five games on Tuesday night, striking first in the Champions League opener against Inter and bending the match to his rhythm almost immediately.

The breakthrough came in the 14th minute, born from Inter carelessness. Curtis Jones lost the ball, Brahim Díaz pounced and slipped a sharp pass into space. Mbappé needed only one touch. One glance, one swing of the right boot, and the ball flashed past Josep Martínez before the Inter goalkeeper could set himself.

That finish was Mbappé’s 71st goal in the competition, pulling him level with Raúl González and into the top five scorers in Champions League history.

To stand alongside a Real Madrid icon so early in his Bernabéu career underlines the scale of his start in white.

The mountain above him remains steep. Cristiano Ronaldo still towers over everyone with 140 goals from his spells at Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus. Just nine minutes after Mbappé’s opener, the pressure forced another mistake from Inter and this time Federico Valverde cashed in. Martínez hesitated, Valverde did not, stretching to poke the ball away from the goalkeeper and into the net to double Madrid’s lead.

The numbers tell one story. The way Mbappé is bending them to his will tells another. At 27, with the Champions League still stretching out in front of him, the question is no longer whether he will climb that scoring list again this season – but how fast.
