Kim Min-jae: Manchester United's Centre-Back Target Amid Juventus Interest
Kim Min-jae has become the latest centre-back to sit at the heart of Manchester United’s summer planning – but Juventus currently have the stronger hand.
According to Bild football chief Christian Falk, United have placed the Bayern Munich defender firmly on their radar as they assess options to reinforce the middle of their back line. Kim, 29, remains one of the most highly regarded central defenders in Europe after his outstanding spell at Napoli and his move to Bayern last year.
Right now, though, Old Trafford is not his likeliest destination.
Juventus' Interest
In Italy, Juventus are pushing hardest. La Gazzetta dello Sport has reported that Kim has already given his approval in principle to a move to Turin, where he would link up again with Luciano Spalletti, the coach who built his reputation at Napoli and guided that side to the Serie A title. The prospect of rekindling that partnership gives Juve a clear edge as they look to reshape their defence.
United's Position
That leaves United in a holding pattern. If Juventus fail to close the deal or the talks stall, the door could swing open for the Premier League club to step in and start formal negotiations with Bayern over a transfer.
There is another layer of complexity. A departure from the German champions is not inevitable. Kim is understood to be content with his status as a squad option in Munich, a player trusted to step in across a long season rather than guaranteed first choice every week.
So the situation sits finely poised: Juventus in front, Manchester United watching closely, and Bayern holding a defender who is in no rush to force his way out.
