KCB Appoints Peter Okidi as Assistant Coach for Title Push

KCB Football Club have moved decisively in the dugout, appointing former Shabana boss Peter Okidi as assistant coach ahead of the new FKF Premier League season.

The club confirmed the move on Friday, 31 July, handing Okidi a role that will see him work under veteran tactician Robert Matano through at least the 2026–2027 campaign. For a coach who has criss-crossed the Kenyan game for more than a decade, it is a significant step back into the top flight.

“The club is delighted to announce the appointment of Peter Okidi as the club's assistant coach who will deputize head coach Robert Matano ahead of the new season,” KCB said in a statement, hailing the “wealth of coaching experience” he brings.

Okidi’s route to the Bankers’ bench has been anything but straightforward. He parted ways with Shabana by mutual consent in March, then took a short stint at National Super League side Mombasa United, where he came in to replace the axed Gilbert Selebwa. Two months on the coast, and he is back in the Premier League, this time in a supporting but pivotal role.

His CV has been quietly filling up. Head coaching roles at Nakuru All Stars back in 2013, Nakuru Bucks, and a spell in charge of the Kenya U15 boys’ side have given him a broad view of the local landscape, from youth development to the grind of league football. Now he steps into a pressure zone where expectations are clear: help turn KCB from contenders into champions.

This is not a cosmetic appointment. It is part of a deliberate reshaping of the technical bench as KCB chase a first-ever Premier League crown next season. The club’s hierarchy has read the room: if they are to finally break the glass ceiling, the support staff must be as sharp as the starting XI.

The changes run deeper than Okidi’s arrival. Former Gor Mahia goalkeeper trainer Boniface Oluoch has been brought in as the new goalkeeper coach, adding top-level experience between the posts. Alongside him, Tobby Owino joins as Video Analyst, a move that signals KCB’s intent to lean harder on performance data and detailed opposition study.

Put together, it looks like a clear statement. Matano at the helm, Okidi beside him, Oluoch fine-tuning the keepers, Owino feeding the numbers and clips. KCB have built a bench that is expected to deliver, not just compete. The question now is simple: can this revamped backroom finally drag the Bankers over the line and into the champions’ circle?
