John Mousinho's Fury Over Touchline Incident Involving Krystian Bielik

John Mousinho says he was “absolutely furious” at the position he was placed in over the touchline flashpoint involving Krystian Bielik and a supporter during Portsmouth’s win over Cardiff City.

The incident came late in the second half as Cardiff defender Bielik went to collect the ball from the crowd. A confrontation followed, drawing angry reactions on and off the pitch and casting a shadow over Pompey’s victory.

After the match, Hampshire Police confirmed it had opened an investigation into an incident “in which a teenage boy was reportedly the victim of a common assault”.

Mousinho initially apologised to the Cardiff players and publicly condemned the behaviour of the supporters involved. At that stage, he was speaking without having seen the incident himself.

By Wednesday, with the dust still far from settled and ahead of Portsmouth’s game against Charlton, his tone had shifted.

“I’ve now seen the footage and my comments post-match were entirely based off what I was told,” Mousinho told BBC Radio Solent.

“When the altercation kicked off I couldn’t see it from where I was myself, the referee then spoke to us and his words at the time were very clear that he had seen the incident in its entirety.

“He said that as Krystian went over to get the ball, the fan slapped him, and a second fan threw a ball at Perry Ng’s head.”

The police investigation continues, the footage has been reviewed, and Mousinho’s frustration is plain. How the authorities and the clubs respond next will set the tone for how such flashpoints are handled for the rest of the season.
