Jim Goodwin Returns to Dundee United Dugout After Medical Absence

Jim Goodwin will return to the Dundee United dugout this weekend after a three-week medical absence that briefly halted his season on the touchline.

The 44-year-old was admitted to hospital at the end of August with an undisclosed condition and only returned home on 1 September. He has been away from day-to-day duties since, watching from a distance as his side tried to steady themselves without him.

That distance closes now. Goodwin is scheduled to handle pre-match media duties on Friday ahead of United’s Scottish Premiership meeting with St Mirren at Tannadice on Saturday, a clear sign he is ready to resume full responsibility.

During his spell out, the Irishman could only watch from the stands earlier this month as United drew with Falkirk, while assistant manager Lee Sharp directed operations from the technical area. Sharp has overseen three Premiership fixtures in Goodwin’s absence, returning a perfectly balanced record: one win, one draw, one defeat.

United now get their manager back on the touchline, just as the league campaign begins to harden and early-season narratives start to stick.
