Jaissle Provides Injury Update for Newcastle – More Signings Expected

Newcastle United may have lost 3-1 to Everton in Edinburgh, but Matthias Jaissle walked away from the pre-season friendly with something far more important than a result: good news from the treatment room.

The head coach confirmed that Fabian Schär is closing in on a long-awaited return, with Tino Livramento and Lewis Miley not far behind.

“He's on the way back now,” Jaissle said of Schär, who has been out since January. The experienced defender is expected to rejoin full team training shortly, with the manager eyeing game time for him as early as this weekend.

“Hopefully in the next days he will be included in the team training,” Jaissle explained, “and then we need to see if he gets some minutes already in the weekend.”

For a side that leaned heavily on its defensive core last season, the sight of Schär back among the group would be a significant lift, even if his return is managed carefully.

Livramento and Miley not far behind

The optimism does not stop there. Livramento and Miley, both key pieces for Newcastle’s present and future, are also edging closer to full involvement.

“A bit of the same, I would say, like with Fabian,” Jaissle said when asked about their progress. The plan is clear: integrate them into team sessions in the coming days and, if all goes well, start feeding them minutes.

“Also we're hoping that in the next days they can be integrated in the team sessions, and hopefully also will get some minutes then,” he added.

For Newcastle, that would mean three important squad options returning just as the tempo of pre-season starts to rise and competitive fixtures loom.

Transfer window still open – and Newcastle active

Injured players returning is one thing. New faces are another. On that front, Jaissle sounded calm, controlled and quietly confident.

The Newcastle boss reiterated that the club’s recruitment work is very much ongoing.

“I will be always consistent with my approach,” he said. “We handle these things internally, we are aware of what we need, and as you know, there's still some time.”

No grand declarations, no public shopping list. Just a clear message: reinforcements are expected, and they will arrive on Newcastle’s terms as the window ticks towards its close.
