Jadon Sancho's Future: Options Abroad and Premier League Interest

Jadon Sancho is leaning towards a move abroad as he weighs up his next step, despite concrete interest from Premier League clubs.

Six weeks on from the expiry of his Manchester United contract, the 26-year-old is a free agent with options on the table and a clear inclination: a fresh start outside England. He is understood to favour a return to the continent, though he has not ruled anything out.

One familiar name has already emerged. Borussia Dortmund, the club where Sancho made his name across two spells and racked up 158 appearances, are among those monitoring his situation. The Bundesliga side know exactly what they would be getting, having sold him to United for £73m in 2021.

Since then, his career has taken a winding route. Last season he was on loan at Aston Villa, featuring 39 times as Unai Emery’s side surged into the Champions League and lifted the Europa League. Sancho played his part in that European run, coming on as a late substitute in the final against Freiburg – his third European final in as many seasons.

The year before, he had spent the 2024-25 campaign on loan at Chelsea, making 41 appearances. That agreement contained an obligation to buy, a clear indication at the time that his Old Trafford chapter was closing. Instead, Chelsea chose to pay a £5m penalty to send him back to Manchester United, leaving his future in limbo once more.

Now out of contract and between clubs, Sancho has stepped away from the elite bubble to stay sharp. He has been training with non-league side Flixton as he works to maintain fitness ahead of the new season, an incongruous backdrop for a player once among the most expensive in Europe.

The next move will define the next phase of his career. Does he go back to the stage where he first dazzled, or chase something entirely new on the continent while the Premier League waits in the wings?
