Arsenal Close in on Liverpool’s Star Teen Vincent Joseph

Arsenal are closing in on one of Liverpool’s most highly rated teenagers, with 16-year-old striker Vincent Joseph set to swap Anfield for north London after letting his schoolboy deal run down.

The Gunners have reached an agreement with Joseph, according to The Athletic, and are now in talks with Liverpool over a compensation package. If the clubs cannot settle on a figure, the case will go to a tribunal, a familiar route when players under 24 move before signing their first professional contract or at the end of one.

Joseph has been a prolific presence in Liverpool’s youth setup, operating primarily as a striker but also capable of dropping into the No 10 role. Anfield Insights describe him as having “scored freely” through the age groups, and his brief taste of under-18s football last season underlined that reputation: three goals in his first two games at that level.

His form is not confined to club football. For England U16s, Joseph has hit eight goals in nine appearances, an outstanding return that has already attracted serious attention. He remains eligible to represent Germany as well, adding another layer of intrigue to his development.

Manchester United were credited with interest in March, a potential raid on a rival’s academy that would have caused a stir. Instead, it is Arsenal who have moved decisively, capitalising as Joseph allowed his schoolboy contract to expire and chose not to sign a scholarship with Liverpool.

Mikel Arteta’s side have seized the opportunity. With an agreement in place on the player side, the focus now is on the fee. The Professional Football Compensation Committee (PFCC) will step in if necessary, weighing up Joseph’s age, his playing record, how long he spent at Liverpool, the status of both clubs and the financial terms put forward by each.

Inside Arsenal, there is a sense they may have secured a future gem. Joseph has already drawn stylistic comparisons to Jamal Musiala, a sign of how highly some within the game view his technical ability and versatility between the lines.

Elite No 9 hunt: Alvarez and Osimhen in the frame

While Arsenal move aggressively at youth level, the senior recruitment team is working on a different profile altogether: an elite centre-forward ready to lead a title challenge.

The club remain in contact over Julian Alvarez, with the Argentine seen as a high-end option to compete with – or even upgrade on – existing targets such as Viktor Gyokeres. Alvarez, though, is understood to favour a move to Barcelona, leaving Arsenal to keep the lines open without any guarantees.

So attention naturally drifts to another heavyweight name. The Telegraph report that Arsenal and Galatasaray discussed Victor Osimhen during conversations about Gabriel Martinelli and Ethan Nwaneri, with the Nigeria striker firmly on the radar of several Premier League sides.

Sources indicate Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have all held internal talks about whether to move for Osimhen, amid suggestions his valuation has dropped below the £100m mark. United have cooled their interest, which hands Arsenal and Spurs a cleaner run at the player.

Even with a reduced price, Osimhen would still command a huge fee and significant wages to make the switch to England. Galatasaray are believed to be more open to negotiating his exit at a slightly lower figure than previously expected, but any deal remains a major financial undertaking.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are also described as the club most interested in a Barcelona player, underlining a clear strategy: stockpile elite talent for the here and now, and quietly scoop up the next wave, like Vincent Joseph, before everyone else catches on.
