Hervé Koffi Set for Union Saint-Gilloise Move

Hervé Koffi is on the brink of another cross-border switch, with the RC Lens goalkeeper expected to join Union Saint-Gilloise on loan with an option to buy, according to La DH.

It is a move shaped as much by performance as by circumstance.

The 29-year-old is coming off a superb season with SCO Angers, where he grew into one of Ligue 1’s standout goalkeepers. Week after week, the Burkinabé international anchored Angers’ survival push, building a reputation for sharp reflexes and a commanding presence in his box.

That form has not been enough to clear his path at Lens.

Back in the north this summer, Koffi finds himself squeezed by internal competition, notably from 21-year-old Robin Risser. With the pecking order tilting away from him, the Dobo-Dioulasso native is not expected to linger at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis for long.

So the road leads back to Belgium.

Koffi knows the Jupiler Pro League well. He first arrived there with Royal Excel Mouscron in 2020-21, then established himself over three seasons at Royal Charleroi SC from 2021 to 2024. Those years hardened him, tested him, and turned him into a reliable, battle-ready No. 1.

Union Saint-Gilloise are banking on exactly that profile.

For the Brussels club, this is not just another squad addition. Koffi is being lined up to replace Kjell Scherpen, the 26-year-old Dutchman who departed this summer for Ipswich Town, newly promoted to the Premier League. Scherpen leaves big gloves to fill after his role in Union’s rise and their European push.

Koffi walks into that challenge with a major incentive: the Champions League.

Union’s qualification opens a new stage for the 29-year-old, who now has the chance to carry his Ligue 1 form onto Europe’s biggest platform. For a keeper who has already rebuilt his reputation in France and Belgium, this next step is as much a test of ambition as it is of ability.

Lens may be blocking his path at home, but in Brussels, the door is wide open.
