Harding Lady Bisons Fall to Washburn 2-0 in Non-Conference Match

SEARCY, Ark. — For 45 minutes on Sunday, Harding did what it has done all season: refused to break.

The Lady Bisons dragged another opponent into a scoreless halftime at Stevens Soccer Complex, stretching an unusual early-season streak to five straight matches tied 0-0 at the break. This time, though, the stand didn’t last.

Washburn finally cracked the game open after the interval, striking twice in quick succession to hand Harding a 2-0 non-conference defeat and keep the Ichabods unbeaten in 2026.

Defensive wall holds — until it doesn’t

Washburn came after Harding from the opening whistle, pushing numbers forward and asking constant questions of the back line. The Ichabods carved out early looks, but the Lady Bisons met them with blocks, interceptions and timely clearances to keep the match level.

By halftime, Harding had again done the hard part. Five games played. Five games scoreless at the break. A defensive identity firmly established.

Then came the 57th minute.

Washburn finally turned pressure into a breakthrough, finishing a chance to grab a 1-0 lead. Before Harding could settle, the visitors struck again just a minute later in the 58th, doubling the advantage and effectively seizing control of the afternoon.

Those two quick blows proved decisive.

Chances created, chances missed

Harding tried to answer on the counter, looking to spring forward once possession was won. The Lady Bisons found moments and produced shots, but not the finish they needed against a disciplined Washburn back line.

Washburn finished with a narrow 16-13 edge in total shots. The second half opened up on both ends, each side registering eight attempts after the break, yet only the Ichabods found the composure in front of goal.

Harding slipped to 1-2-2, the defensive resolve still evident, the attacking edge still searching for consistency.

Now the tune changes.
