Gavi Discusses Pressure and Growth at Barcelona

Gavi is no longer the untouchable name on Barcelona’s teamsheet, but inside the dressing room his status has not slipped. Hansi Flick still leans on him, still draws him into his plans, even as competition for minutes bites harder than ever.

The Andalusian has accepted the challenge. He keeps his head down, keeps working, knowing every game now feels like an exam.

Speaking to "Men's Health", the 22-year-old pulled back the curtain on how that pressure feels compared to the wide‑eyed teenager who burst into the first team.

"Now there is much greater pressure than there was when I was 17 years old. At that time I did not realise where I was. The younger I was, the more I enjoyed football," he admitted.

Back then, he played as if nothing could touch him. Since then, plenty has.

Injuries, lessons and a different Gavi

Gavi has already lived through the kind of injury lay-offs that can derail a career before it truly starts. Those long months away from the pitch cut deep, but they also reshaped him.

"Perhaps I was not patient in the past, but now I am more patient," he said. "When I was injured, I had to complete the stages and set goals. It was also useful for me to learn other things beyond football. Now I can say that I take care of myself much better than I did when I started my professional career."

The midfielder who once played as if the next tackle didn’t exist now thinks in phases, in recovery blocks, in long-term targets. That change is written on his knee.

A knee that changed everything

That knee, the one that cost him almost an entire season, is never far from his mind. Even when he is not starting, the work does not stop.

"My knee must always be strong, whether I play or not," he explained. "I cannot be lax because the injury could happen at any moment."

No shortcuts. No days off. The fear of going through that ordeal again is a constant, but so is the determination not to let it define him.

During the darkest stretches of his rehabilitation, he closed ranks.

"I isolated myself with my family, and that helped me a lot," he revealed.

They became his shield while the rest of the football world moved on without him.

Gavi’s view on Lamine Yamal

Now back in the mix, Gavi finds himself sharing a dressing room with another prodigy dealing with his own version of the spotlight: Lamine Yamal.

And the midfielder did not hold back when asked about the young forward.

"This player is very skilful on the pitch, but he surprises you even more in training," he said. "I only hope he keeps developing. He is aware of his abilities. He can be among the best of all time."

Strong words, but they come from someone who knows how brutal the climb can be.

"I see him as mentally strong, and that is the most important thing in the end," Gavi added. "He knows what he wants, and he still has a long football future ahead of him. He must continue in this way every day, because the present is the most important thing, and everyone will be watching him closely every day."

Gavi speaks like someone who has already lived several careers in one. He is fighting for his place, guarding a fragile knee, and watching the next phenomenon rise beside him. The pressure is heavier now, but so is his armour.
