Fiorentina Rejects Free-Agent Jadon Sancho Amid Rebuild

Jadon Sancho’s long flirtation with Serie A has hit another dead end.

A year after Roma circled and ultimately walked away, the winger has again been offered to Italy – and again been told no. This time, the answer came from Florence.

Now a free agent after Manchester United chose not to extend his contract beyond this summer and following his loan spell at Aston Villa, Sancho’s camp made a move. Two weeks ago, his entourage contacted Fiorentina to test the waters, sounding out whether La Viola would be tempted by a player of his profile, available without a transfer fee.

The response was blunt: thanks, but no.

Fiorentina, deep into a summer of reshaping under Fabio Paratici, declined the opportunity to sign the former Borussia Dortmund star. The decision was not financial. It was strategic.

The club weighed Sancho’s recent record – a turbulent spell at United, limited impact at the very top level in recent seasons – and chose a different path. They had already lined up another piece of their future: Franco Mastantuono, younger, with a cleaner recent reputation and a profile that better fits a long-term project.

For Paratici, who saw Sancho up close during his time in England, the choice was clear. Familiarity with the player did not translate into faith in him as a cornerstone of Fiorentina’s rebuild. Instead of gambling on a big-name free agent trying to relaunch his career, La Viola backed a fresher bet.

So a door that once looked wide open for Sancho in Serie A is closing again. Roma last summer, Fiorentina now. The Italian market has had its chances to bring him in and has twice walked away.

Sancho remains on the market, still only in his mid-20s, still searching for a club willing to trust that the talent which once lit up the Bundesliga can be reignited. Fiorentina, meanwhile, march into a new era with Paratici’s blueprint and Mastantuono’s promise.

One player hunts for redemption. The other walks into a project built for tomorrow.
