Fenerbahce Pursues Sorloth as Atletico Targets Vlahovic
Fenerbahce have moved to the front of the queue for Alexander Sorloth, with the Turkish giants now leading the race to prise the striker away from Atletico Madrid, according to Marca’s Matteo Moretto, as cited by beIN Sports.
Sorloth is tied to Atletico until June 2028 after arriving from Villarreal in August 2024, but his future at the Metropolitano already sits at the heart of the club’s summer planning. Atletico have set a €40m (£34m/$46m) price tag, and Fenerbahce are understood to be one of the few clubs capable of paying it.
This is not just another sale. Inside Atletico, Sorloth is seen as the financial lever that can unlock the rest of their window. The fee would help steady the books and, crucially, clear the wage space needed to bring in Dusan Vlahovic.
Talks are active, even if the decisive step has not yet been taken. No formal offer matching Atletico’s full valuation has landed on the table, but negotiations between the clubs are ongoing as they work through the details of the move to Istanbul.
For Diego Simeone, losing Sorloth would reshape his attack. The Norwegian offers a towering reference point, a striker who relishes aerial duels and gives Atletico a direct outlet when games become tight and scrappy. Remove that presence and the geometry of Simeone’s forward line changes.
Vlahovic would change it in a very different way. Expected to arrive on a free transfer after his Juventus contract expired in late June, the Serbian forward would inject a more aggressive, high-intensity edge into the frontline, pressing from the front and attacking space rather than simply occupying defenders.
In Istanbul, the picture is clear. Fenerbahce view Sorloth as the man to lead their charge at home and in Europe, a central pillar around whom they can build a side capable of bullying domestic opponents and standing up to continental pressure.
The final stretch of the deal now hinges on structure. Both clubs are locked in discussions over how the €40m package will be paid and what performance-related add-ons will be attached. Appearance milestones, goal targets, team achievements – all of it is being weighed and traded.
Once that puzzle is solved and Sorloth’s move to Fenerbahce is sealed, Atletico expect the dominoes to fall quickly. The Norwegian’s departure would not just close one chapter in Simeone’s attack. It would trigger the move that brings Vlahovic to the Metropolitano and redraws the front line for the season ahead.
