Eduardo Camavinga Commits to Real Madrid Amid Manchester United Interest

Eduardo Camavinga has made up his mind. Manchester United called, pushed, and waited. Real Madrid’s reshaped midfield has given him every excuse to walk away. Instead, it has convinced him to stay.

According to Fabrizio Romano, United made their move in July, contacting Camavinga’s representatives as part of a late push to complete their midfield rebuild. After bringing in Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, the plan at Old Trafford is clear: add a more defensive presence to anchor the new-look engine room.

Camavinga fit the profile. Young, press-resistant, capable of patrolling the space in front of the back four. A player whose ceiling still excites Europe’s elite, even after a season that went badly wrong.

Last year was brutal for the 23-year-old. His form dipped, his rhythm deserted him, and the ultimate punishment arrived when he was left out of France’s World Cup squad. For a player once tipped as a generational midfielder, it was a jarring fall.

Inside the game, though, few see it as anything more than a stumble. At his age, one poor campaign is a warning, not a verdict. Real Madrid clearly agree.

They have already moved aggressively in midfield this summer, landing Bernardo Silva to add yet another layer of craft and control. The grand plan went further: they wanted Rodri as well. The 2024 Ballon d’Or winner was identified, green-lit and, in principle, there to be taken.

But Real hesitated. No official bid. No decisive push. That hesitation opened the door for their greatest rival.

Barcelona stepped through it. They agreed personal terms with Rodri and are now driving towards a deal expected to be worth around €70m. With the player giving full priority to Barça, Real Madrid have walked away from the chase.

That decision has changed everything for Camavinga.

Rodri plays in the same zone, the same role, the same heartbeat area of the pitch. His arrival would have pushed Camavinga further down the pecking order at the Bernabeu. Without him, the path looks different. Clearer. More inviting.

Romano reports that Camavinga has responded by doubling down on his commitment to Real Madrid. The message to Manchester United and every other suitor has been consistent and unwavering: he wants to stay.

“Man Utd called the agents of Camavinga in July. United wanted to be informed,” Romano explained on his YouTube channel, outlining the sequence of events. The response did not change. Camavinga’s stance has been to reject all approaches and fight for his place in Madrid.

He believes there is still a role for him in Jose Mourinho’s plans. With Rodri no longer arriving, that belief has only hardened. The competition remains fierce, but the looming shadow of another world-class holding midfielder has gone. Now, it is down to him.

For United, it means another name crossed off an already crowded shortlist. The search for a defensive midfielder continues, with Manu Kone, Sander Berge, Carlos Baleba and Tyler Adams among the alternatives under consideration.

There is also a more left-field option on the table. Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly, capable of operating at left-back or at the base of midfield, has been offered to United, with the Gunners prepared to cash in.

United’s need is obvious. Their intent is clear. But in Madrid, one of their prime targets has chosen the harder road: stay, compete, and try to convince Mourinho he belongs at the heart of Real’s next great midfield.
