Deniz Undav Sets Ultimatum at VfB Stuttgart Ahead of World Cup
Deniz Undav has set the clock ticking at VfB Stuttgart.
The striker, one of the faces of Stuttgart’s resurgence, wants his future sorted before he boards a plane with the German national team for the World Cup in the United States. According to Bild, he has drawn a clear line in the sand: clarity by Tuesday, June 2 – or the talks go on ice.
No slow burn. No open-ended saga. Undav wants a decision.
Ultimatum before take-off
Stuttgart know exactly where they stand. Undav will fly out with Germany in two weeks, and he does not intend to juggle contract wrangling with a World Cup campaign. If there is no agreement by the time he joins up and departs for America, negotiations are expected to be paused so he can concentrate fully on the tournament.
The message is unmistakable: sort it now, or wait.
Big offer on the table – but not big enough
VfB are working to keep their attacking leader on improved terms and are expected, Bild reports, to table a fresh offer before the weekend. The numbers are already hefty.
So far, Stuttgart are said to have put forward an annual salary in the region of €5.5 million to €6 million. That would be a significant jump from his current reported wage of around €4.5 million per year. On top of that, the club are prepared to pay a signing-on fee of €3 million just for his signature.
For many players, that package would close the deal. For Undav, it has not – at least not yet.
Stuttgart’s test of ambition
The situation now hangs in a delicate balance. Stuttgart must decide how far they are willing to stretch to keep their goalscorer at the heart of their project, while Undav weighs his market value against the pull of continuity and a team built around him.
The deadline is set. The offer is substantial. The World Cup is looming.
Whether the Swabians can push their proposal over the line in time – or watch their key striker step onto that plane with his future unresolved – will say plenty about where both club and player see their next chapter.
