Camilo Duran Shines as Celtic Secures 2-1 Victory Over Falkirk

Camilo Duran offered Celtic exactly what they needed: a sharp edge and a little bit of healing.

Days after European frustration, the Colombian striker stepped into his favoured central role in place of the injured Kasper Hogh and drove his side to a 2-1 win over Falkirk, scoring twice inside 29 minutes and looking every inch a natural No 9.

Given the responsibility through the middle, Duran wasted no time. His movement dragged Falkirk’s back line around, his instincts inside the box brought two proper striker’s finishes, and his link-up play repeatedly carved out chances for team-mates. Celtic poured forward, created a string of first-half openings and, on another night, might have had the game buried before the interval.

They didn’t. And that kept Falkirk alive.

After the break, the visitors stepped higher, snapping into challenges and pressing Celtic far more aggressively in their own half. The pattern of the game shifted. Celtic still carried a threat, but Falkirk now forced errors and began to turn loose balls into attacking platforms.

The pressure eventually told in the 72nd minute, when Colby Donovan diverted the ball into his own net to give Falkirk a lifeline and change the mood inside the stadium. From a position of comfort, Celtic suddenly had a one-goal lead to protect and a restless crowd urging them to finish the job.

They responded by pinning Falkirk back again, pushing the visitors deep for the remainder of the contest. Chances came and went, the third goal never arrived, and the closing stages carried more tension than the home side would have liked.

Duran’s double, though, stood up. On a night when Celtic needed a response more than a spectacle, their new focal point delivered it and left a clear question hanging over the forward line once Hogh returns.
