Danilo's Final Contract: A Dream Ending at Flamengo

Danilo has set a clear date for the end of his career – and he wants it to be in red and black.

Speaking at a press conference at Flamengo’s Ninho do Urubu training ground, the veteran defender outlined his desire to sign what would be the final contract of his career and close his journey at the club he calls home.

The 35-year-old, who has carried a heavy load for club and country, admitted that the last cycle left him with little room to think about his future.

“In 2026, I had very little time to reflect and assess; there was a World Cup in between, and at 35 years old, I had to dedicate myself immensely physically to measure up and be well prepared,” he said, explaining how international duty had consumed most of his energy before he could sit down with Flamengo’s hierarchy.

Only now, he says, has the noise quietened.

“Now is when I've had more peace of mind to think about it. Flamengo and I have been talking, and I hope 2027 is the year we can be together so I can play the final year of my career.”

For a player who has worn the shirts of Real Madrid and Manchester City, the tone was strikingly intimate. This is not about another big move. This is about coming full circle.

Danilo underlined that talks over a renewal have been smooth, with no friction between the parties and a shared will to get the deal done. There is no brinkmanship here, no drama – just a veteran trying to script his last chapter.

“We have spoken very calmly,” he said. “Both sides share the desire to move forward, to put together another beautiful year, and a year where I can truly say ‘this is the last year of my career’ and finish at the club of my heart, in a project I believed in and that has been working.”

The message was consistent: no stumbling blocks, no hidden tension.

“I don't think there are any obstacles preventing this from happening,” he added, before looking ahead to the dream finale. “Hopefully in 2027 we can be together, finish my career at Flamengo, and, God willing, win a major trophy – that would be wonderful.”

A final season, at his boyhood club, chasing one last major title. Danilo has drawn the outline. Now Flamengo must help him colour it in.
