Chelsea Pursue Alex Scott with New £70 Million Bid

Chelsea are refusing to step away from Alex Scott. If anything, they are walking back to the table with louder intent.

The London club are preparing a new offer worth around £70 million for the Bournemouth midfielder, having already seen a £64m bid turned down. The message from Stamford Bridge is clear: Scott sits near the top of their summer agenda, and they are prepared to push hard to get him.

At 22, the England midfielder fits neatly into Chelsea’s long-term blueprint. The board see him as a cornerstone for a rebuilt midfield, a player to grow with a young squad rather than a short-term fix for the coming season.

But Bournemouth are in no mood to roll over.

Bournemouth dig in

The south-coast club have set their price at £80m and, so far, have shown no inclination to shift. Chelsea’s improved bid still falls short of that valuation, and the gap between the clubs threatens to drag negotiations into a stalemate.

Inside Bournemouth, the stance is firm. The club know exactly what they have: a young, homegrown midfielder admired across the league and tied to a team about to test itself in Europe. That combination gives them leverage, and they are using it.

One source close to the talks described Chelsea’s progress on the “Alex Scott file” as significant, but warned that the new offer is still likely to be rejected. The expectation around the deal is of a long game rather than a quick breakthrough.

Henderson in, but Scott still the prize

Chelsea’s move for Jordan Henderson has not changed their plan. The veteran’s arrival is seen as experience and depth, not a reason to walk away from a younger, high-ceiling midfielder.

Scott remains the preferred option. Chelsea want legs, energy and technical quality in the middle of the pitch, but they also want age on their side. In their view, Scott ticks every box.

They are not alone.

Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham have all monitored the situation, while Arsenal made early enquiries before turning their attention elsewhere. The interest from the top end of the Premier League underlines how highly Scott is rated, and it keeps pressure on Bournemouth to hold their line.

The sense around the deal is that other clubs could yet step in. Liverpool in particular are being watched closely, with Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola known to be a major admirer of Scott’s ability. If Chelsea hesitate, the field will not stay clear for long.

Arsenal and United look elsewhere

Not every suitor is still at the table. Arsenal have shifted their focus towards Bruno Guimaraes as they reshape their midfield. Manchester United, meanwhile, have cooled on Scott and begun to assess alternative targets.

That change in landscape removes two heavyweight bidders from the immediate chase, but it does not ease the financial challenge for Chelsea. Bournemouth’s valuation remains the same, regardless of how many clubs are in the queue.

No fire sale on the south coast

The injury to Eli Junior Kroupi briefly stirred speculation that Bournemouth might need to recalibrate their summer. Some reports suggested the striker’s absence could either harden their resolve to keep key players or, conversely, push them towards a major sale to fund further reinforcements.

Those close to the club, though, have played down talk of financial pressure. Bournemouth, they insist, are under no obligation to cash in on a star asset.

European qualification has strengthened their position, both in prestige and in revenue. On top of that, the club have already banked substantial fees, with Antoine Semenyo’s departure in the winter window and the exits of Dean Huijsen and Milos Kerkez adding to a healthy balance sheet.

All of that gives Bournemouth room to say no. They can wait. They can demand their number.

Chelsea, then, face a familiar Premier League dilemma: walk away from a target they believe in, or push closer to a valuation set by a club that no longer needs to sell. The next bid will not just test Bournemouth’s resolve; it will show how far Chelsea are truly willing to go to secure the midfielder they see as central to their future.
