Charlton Athletic Signs Timothy Ouma on Loan

Charlton Athletic have moved to sharpen their midfield with the signing of Kenya international Timothy Ouma from Slavia Prague on a season-long loan, with an option to make the deal permanent.

“Timothy is a player that we've monitored for a long, long time, and he comes with a real good pedigree,” the Charlton boss told the club’s official channels. “He's an athletic, technical midfield player who has had some good experience, and he'll add real quality to our midfield.”

This is not a speculative punt. Ouma arrives with a well-travelled CV for a player still in the early years of his career.

He broke through at Nairobi City Stars in his homeland, quickly marking himself out as one of Kenya’s brightest young talents. From there, his path took him to IF Elfsborg in the Swedish top flight in the summer of 2022, a move that pushed him into European football and a more demanding stage.

In Sweden, Ouma did more than just adapt. He collected 13 Europa League appearances, gaining a taste of continental competition and the rhythm of Thursday-Sunday football that tests both legs and temperament. That exposure persuaded Slavia Prague to bring him in after three seasons with Elfsborg.

Game time last term came via another loan, this time to Polish champions Lech Poznan. Ouma played his part in a title-winning campaign, adding a league crown to his growing list of experiences and learning how to live with the pressure that comes when every point matters.

Charlton now tap into that journey. A Kenyan international with Scandinavian and central European experience, still only 22, dropping into an English dressing room that Jones is reshaping with a clear plan.

If Ouma settles quickly and the athletic, technical midfielder Charlton have “monitored for a long, long time” shows his full range, the option to buy may not stay on paper for long.
