Bruno Genesio Faces Tough Decisions Ahead of Classique

Bruno Genesio does not have the luxury of grand gestures. Not with this squad size. Not with a four-game losing streak hanging over Olympique de Marseille as they walk into Sunday night’s Classique against Paris Saint-Germain.

He needs a reaction, but he has to find it with almost the same faces.

Tight squad, big decisions

Geoffrey Kondogbia and Tochukwu Nnadi are still unavailable, stripping away two options in the middle of the pitch and narrowing Genesio’s choices even further. The core of his Ligue 1 side has been stable in recent weeks, and not by design as much as necessity.

So any tweak now carries weight.

The likeliest adjustment? Angel Gomes could be the one to step aside. The England international has struggled to rediscover rhythm since returning from his loan spell at Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer, and his form has not yet matched the demands of a Classique buildup.

If Gomes does drop out, the dominoes start to fall. Amine Harit would be pushed into a central role, where his ability to carry the ball and link play between the lines becomes the focal point of Marseille’s attacks. That, in turn, opens a lane on the right.

Keylian Abdallah is the name expected to fill it. His presence on the flank would give OM a more direct outlet, someone to stretch PSG’s back line and create space for Harit and Amine Gouiri to operate.

Genesio is therefore tipped to stick with the structure that has become familiar, with just that one attacking reshuffle:
