Brighton Signs Promise David: A Goal-Scoring Striker

Brighton have moved to sharpen their attacking edge with the signing of Canada striker Promise David from Royale Union Saint-Gilloise on a season-long loan, in a deal that includes an obligation to buy for a reported £22m.

The 25-year-old arrives on the south coast with a clear calling card: goals. Since joining Union Saint-Gilloise in 2024, David has hit 41 goals and supplied nine assists in 82 appearances, numbers that quickly pushed him onto the radar of clubs across Europe.

Brighton have acted.

A striker built on goals and miles

David’s route to the Premier League has been anything but straightforward. He began in Canada, then bounced through Croatia and the United States, chasing opportunities and minutes. From there, his career wound through the Maltese Premier League with two different clubs, before a move to Estonian side Nomme Kalju opened the door to Union Saint-Gilloise and, eventually, England.

That journey has hardened him. He has learned to score in different systems, in different climates, in leagues where chances can be scarce and defenders unforgiving.

Brighton’s sporting director Mike Cave made it clear the club have tracked him closely.

“Promise is someone we have been watching for some time, he is an out-and-out striker who possesses outstanding physical attributes and a track record of scoring goals,” Cave said. “His experience at international level and in European competition will hopefully prove valuable this season.

“At 25, he's entering his prime playing years and we're excited to see him continue to develop in our environment.”

World Cup pedigree

David also arrives with the confidence that comes from a World Cup on his CV. He featured in four of Canada’s five matches at the tournament, coming off the bench each time, and scored in the 2-1 group-stage defeat to Switzerland.

That goal, on the biggest stage, underlined what Brighton believe they are getting: a striker who can handle pressure and still find the net.

Now comes the real test. A £22m obligation to buy signals trust, expectation and responsibility. Brighton have paid for a finisher in his prime. The question is simple: can Promise David turn that promise into Premier League goals?
