Batistuta Shines Again in Fiorentina's 100th Anniversary Celebration

Batistuta Returns to Stadio Artemio Franchi for Fiorentina's Centenary Match

Gabriel Batistuta made a memorable comeback on September 2, 2026, at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, netting two goals in a thrilling 7-3 victory for the Fiorentina All-Stars against Operazione Nostalgia. The match drew more than 20,000 fans eager to honor the club's 100-year legacy.

The Argentine legend shared the pitch with renowned teammates like Manuel Rui Costa, Roberto Baggio, and Francesco Totti, reigniting memories of his prolific days with La Viola during the 1990s. His performance particularly delighted supporters in the Curva Fiesole.

Choosing the Curva Fiesole Goal

After the match, Batistuta explained why he aimed for the goal beneath the Curva Fiesole in the first half, a choice decided by winning the pre-game coin toss.

"I won the toss and chose to go towards that goal because I feel it's familiar," he said. "Honestly, I'm not in shape to play, but I couldn't miss Fiorentina's party. I am part of these 100 years, so I wanted to be here."

He added, "I felt their love, and clearly they felt what I feel for them, so it's reciprocal and I hope it continues."

Contrast with Recent Serie A Defeat

The joyous exhibition starkly contrasted with the official anniversary game on August 29, 2026, where Fabio Grosso's Fiorentina side suffered a 3-0 home loss to promoted Frosinone in Serie A. Despite the setback, celebrations throughout the city continued with torchlight parades and illuminating installations.

Batistuta highlighted that Florence's passion for Fiorentina transcends short-term results.

An Unbreakable Bond with Florence

Reflecting on Fiorentina's special place in the city, Batistuta described the deep connection between the club and its supporters.

"The love the city has for this team is incredible, rarely seen anywhere in the world," he remarked. When asked about the essence of Fiorentina, he concluded: "Don't try to find explanations, you understand? Just feel it."
