The German coach has summoned a core of his internationals for the friendly in Switzerland, as reported by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo. Two names are missing, and they are significant: Pedri and Gavi will not be involved as they continue their own recovery and conditioning work.

Everyone else, though, is being pushed back towards competition speed.

Lamine Yamal, Dani Olmo, Joan García, Eric García, Pau Cubarsí, Gordon and Jules Koundé are all in the travelling party, handed the chance to taste minutes again after their World Cup exertions. For several of them, it is the first real opportunity to reconnect with Flick’s ideas on the pitch rather than just on the training ground.

The squad has already flown out to Switzerland, treating the Basel clash as another key step in a carefully staged pre-season programme designed by Flick to sharpen fitness and re-establish rhythm.

Around those senior names, the coach has surrounded himself with youth.

Reserve goalkeeper Eder Aller is one of the most notable inclusions.
