Arsenal's Move for Victor Osimhen: A Game Changer in the Title Race

Arsenal are exploring a blockbuster move for Victor Osimhen in the final weeks of the summer window – a deal that would send a jolt through the Premier League title race.

Mikel Arteta’s hunt for a new No.9 has never really gone away. Gabriel Jesus remains on the fringes of the project, his future at the Emirates increasingly uncertain as Arsenal look for a more ruthless focal point.

Viktor Gyokeres offered glimpses last season of what that role could look like in this Arsenal side. Twenty-one goals in 55 games in all competitions underlined his potential to grow into a 20-goal-a-season striker in north London. But Arsenal’s gaze has drifted elsewhere.

For weeks, the club have been circling around Julian Alvarez, testing Atletico Madrid’s resolve. That pursuit has stalled against a brick wall. Atletico have already rebuffed interest from Real Madrid and turned down a €100m (£86.7m) offer from Barcelona, and they remain unmoved. Arsenal, sensing the stalemate, have turned to a different kind of solution.

Osimhen.

The Galatasaray striker has now emerged as a serious option, with The Telegraph reporting that his name has been raised in talks between Arsenal and the Turkish champions. Those discussions initially centred on potential deals for Gabriel Martinelli and Ethan Nwaneri – but Osimhen has moved firmly onto the agenda.

The Nigeria international has been hovering around a Premier League move before. Two years ago, Chelsea held advanced talks with Napoli over a transfer, only for the deal to collapse. Instead, Osimhen headed to Galatasaray on an initial loan, a move that was made permanent last summer for €75m (£64.8m).

That decision has transformed Galatasaray’s attack. Osimhen has driven them to back-to-back league titles, smashing 59 goals in 74 games and establishing himself as the dominant centre-forward in Turkey. Across his club career, the numbers are even more striking: 173 goals in 297 matches.

Now his future is back on the table.

Galatasaray’s interest in Martinelli is a key lever. The Turkish club have already lodged a €45m (£38.4m) bid for the Brazilian. Arsenal know that gives them a negotiating foothold. The complication is Martinelli himself, with reports suggesting he is not particularly enthusiastic about a move to the Turkish league.

Nwaneri is a different story. Arsenal have reportedly offered the 19-year-old to Galatasaray for €40m (£34.1m), and talks over that deal are said to be progressing. The teenager impressed on loan at Marseille last season and represents a valuable asset in any broader negotiation.

That’s where Osimhen comes in.

Two years ago, Arsenal were offered the chance to sign him and walked away, wary that Napoli’s demands would spiral beyond reason. Now the landscape has changed. Galatasaray are open for business, Arsenal need a striker, and Osimhen is understood to be open to a move to north London.

With Atletico refusing to blink over Alvarez, the path is clearer. Working with Galatasaray could prove far more straightforward, especially with multiple players potentially in play and Arsenal’s sporting operation, led by Andrea Berta, pushing to ignite a deal of real significance.

If Arsenal choose Osimhen over Alvarez, it would not just be a change of target. It would be a statement about how they intend to finish the job in a title race they now expect to dominate, not just contest.
