Arsenal Targets World Cup Winners: Williams and Torres

Arsenal’s summer rebuild is gathering pace. Christos Tzolis is already through the door from Club Brugge, but the message from the Emirates is clear: the attack is not finished yet.

This window, Arsenal are not just shopping for depth. They are hunting difference-makers.

Two World Cup winners in the crosshairs

According to Metro Sport, Arsenal are pushing ahead with plans to add one more high-end forward, with two World Cup winners firmly on their radar: Nico Williams of Athletic Club and Ferran Torres of Barcelona.

These are not speculative names plucked from a long list. Both players combined for the winning goal in the World Cup final and have since grown into central figures at their clubs. Williams has become the livewire symbol of Athletic’s ambition, a winger who stretches defences and relishes the one‑v‑one. Torres, at Barcelona, offers a different profile: versatile, technically polished, and comfortable across the front line.

Arsenal would like at least one of them in red and white before the window closes. That is the level they are now targeting—players with medals, pedigree, and the temperament to handle the sharp end of elite football.

Arteta sharpens the attack

Mikel Arteta has been consistent in his messaging. Retaining the Premier League title and mounting a serious tilt at the Champions League will demand more than continuity; it will demand upgrades.

He has already shown he can integrate high-calibre signings without disrupting the dressing-room core. New arrivals are expected to buy into the project, not just the wage packet. Tzolis is the latest example, a talent identified early and brought in to add fresh energy to the forward line.

But Arteta wants more variety, more threat, more options when games tighten and margins shrink. Williams and Torres sit neatly in that category: proven at the highest level, capable of playing under pressure, and still with room to grow.

Williams has been on Arsenal’s list for some time, a long-term target whose pace and directness would add a different gear to their attack. Torres, meanwhile, carries a significant advantage in adaptation terms. His spell at Manchester City means he already understands the tempo, the physicality, and the tactical demands of the Premier League. For a club chasing trophies on multiple fronts, that familiarity matters.

A window that won’t stand still

Inside the recruitment department, the work will not stop at a shortlist of two. Arsenal will continue to scan the market, assess prices, and weigh up the balance of the squad as the window moves on. The priority, though, is clear: more quality in the final third, not simply more bodies.

The club believes that an additional top-level attacker could be decisive in sustaining a title defence while navigating the grind of European nights. With Williams and Torres under consideration and Tzolis already bedding in, Arsenal’s intent is unmistakable.

They have built a squad capable of competing. Now comes the question that will define their season: can they add the one extra spark that turns contenders into serial winners?
