Alvaro Gonzalez Shares What Cristiano Ronaldo Is Really Like Off the Pitch

Alvaro Gonzalez Reveals Cristiano Ronaldo's True Personality Behind Closed Doors

Former Al-Nassr defender Alvaro Gonzalez has offered insight into what Cristiano Ronaldo is like away from the public eye during their time together at the Saudi club. The Spanish centre-back described Ronaldo as approachable and humble in the dressing room but noted a drastic change once the game begins.

A Different Side of Ronaldo

Gonzalez spoke about the atmosphere in the locker room when Ronaldo arrived in Riyadh, highlighting the Portuguese star’s supportive nature towards his teammates. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner maintained a grounded attitude despite his global status, which left a strong impression on Gonzalez and others.

"Honestly, and after confirming it with other team-mates we've had in common, he's absolutely fantastic inside the dressing room," Gonzalez said on Radio MARCA. "Inside the dressing room, he's a completely normal person, approachable and someone who helps you."

Yet, Gonzalez pointed out that the moment Ronaldo steps onto the pitch, everything changes. He becomes intensely competitive, driven by an urge to win. "From the moment he leaves the dressing room and steps onto the pitch, he completely changes. He's a competitive beast," he added.

Relentless Drive and Camaraderie

The defender also recalled how Ronaldo’s work ethic shone through in training sessions where they often clashed physically. Despite the tough battles on the field, the two would share laughs and relax together afterward.

"Afterwards, we'd go to the jacuzzi, have some laughs and joke around, and it would all be forgotten," Gonzalez explained.

Reflecting on Ronaldo's place in football history, Gonzalez acknowledged his legendary status alongside rival Lionel Messi, saying, "People like him and [Lionel] Messi will go down in the history of football."

Ronaldo's Quest for Historic Milestones

During the 2022-23 season, Gonzalez and Ronaldo appeared together in 11 matches across all competitions, achieving six wins before Gonzalez moved on. Now 41 and signed with Al-Nassr until June 2027, Ronaldo continues chasing the rare milestone of 1,000 career goals, having already scored 978 in 1,333 official games.

This relentless ambition remains his driving force as he leads the club on both domestic and continental fronts.
