Alonso and Arbeloa Make Premier League Coaching Debuts in London Derby

Two familiar faces from the Bernabéu step into unfamiliar territory in west London tonight.

At Craven Cottage, Alvaro Arbeloa and Xabi Alonso both take charge of a Premier League side for the first time, swapping Real Madrid’s white heat for a west London derby under the lights. Fulham v Chelsea already carries an edge; add two debutant Spanish coaches with shared history in Madrid, and the touchline becomes almost as intriguing as the pitch.

Alonso’s first Chelsea XI raises eyebrows

The first real jolt of the evening came with the Chelsea teamsheet.

Moises Caicedo and Marco Palestra, widely expected to start, are missing. The word is their absence is precautionary rather than anything more serious, but it still forces an early reshuffle for Alonso on his competitive bow.

They are two of four changes from the side that finished pre-season against Real Sociedad. Wesley Fofana is out injured, while Pedro Neto drops to the bench.
