Al-Hilal Breaks Club Record to Sign Crysencio Summerville for 70 Million Euros
Al-Hilal Makes History Signing Dutch Winger Crysencio Summerville
Al-Hilal, the leading Saudi club, has completed the signing of Dutch winger Crysencio Summerville from West Ham United in a deal that sets a new record for the club’s transfer spending this window.
The 24-year-old agreed to a four-year contract after passing his medical in Amsterdam last Tuesday, according to reports by The Athletic.
The transfer fee exceeds 70 million euros (about 60 million pounds), consisting of a 55 million euro fixed sum plus 5 million euros in add-ons. This move was a top priority for the club’s new management and sporting director Simon Francis, who recently joined from Bournemouth.
Competition from European Clubs
Several big European teams showed interest but failed to match Al-Hilal’s offer. Roma proposed 46 million euros, Manchester United inquired about Summerville’s availability, and Aston Villa also expressed interest. Ultimately, the Saudi side’s bid closed the deal.
Summerville’s Career Before Al-Hilal
Summerville’s departure from West Ham appeared likely following the club’s relegation to the Championship, despite his contract running through 2029. He joined West Ham in 2024 from Leeds United and featured in 56 matches, scoring 7 goals and providing 5 assists in the most recent season alone.
International Impact
On the global stage, Summerville impressed with the Netherlands during the World Cup this summer. Over 4 games, he scored twice and assisted two more before the team’s penalty shootout exit against Morocco in the round of 32.
