Start of the 2026/27 La Liga Season

The upcoming La Liga season kicks off on Saturday, August 15, starting with Alaves hosting Getafe. This season's start is staggered due to World Cup semifinals commitments. Teams with players involved in those late stages were allowed to delay their first matches, with all taking the option except for Celta Vigo, who will face Osasuna on Sunday, August 16 despite Borja Iglesias' role in Spain's World Cup win.

This adjustment means heavyweights like Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid have had their opening fixtures postponed. Atletico's game against Malaga will be played midweek on Wednesday, August 19. Meanwhile, Valencia vs Real Betis, Real Madrid vs Real Sociedad, and Barcelona vs Athletic Club, initially set for the opening weekend, are rescheduled to midweek dates between August 25 and 27.
