Yves Bissouma Set for Ajax Move

Yves Bissouma is closing in on a return to football, with Ajax poised to sign the former Tottenham midfielder on a short-term deal.

The 30-year-old Mali international, a free agent since leaving Spurs in June, is in Amsterdam to put the finishing touches on a move to the Eredivisie giants. The agreement is expected to run until the end of the season, with an option for Ajax to extend his stay by a further 12 months.

For Bissouma, it marks a fresh start after his time in north London came to a quiet end. He joined Tottenham from Brighton in 2022 amid high expectations and went on to make 111 appearances for the club. At his best, he offered bite, energy and control at the base of midfield, traits Ajax have been searching for as they rebuild.

His Spurs spell, though, never quite settled into a consistent rhythm. In August 2025, then Tottenham manager Thomas Frank left Bissouma out of the squad to face Paris St-Germain in the Uefa Super Cup, citing persistent lateness. It was a public flashpoint that underlined how far his stock had fallen from the heights of his Brighton days.

Now comes the reset. A new league, a new dressing room, and a club that has long prided itself on reshaping careers as much as launching them. If Bissouma can rediscover his old intensity in Amsterdam, this short-term deal may not stay short for long.
