West Ham Urges Fans to Stop Offensive Chant Targeting Manor Solomon
West Ham have issued a firm plea to their supporters to drop an "offensive and divisive" chant aimed at new signing Manor Solomon.
The song, which the club say contained an "anti-Palestine message", was heard from a section of the away end during last Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Burnley at Turf Moor, the opening game of their Championship campaign.
Solomon, the Israel winger who arrived from Tottenham this summer after loan spells at Fulham and Leeds, found himself at the centre of a flashpoint that had nothing to do with his football. West Ham moved quickly before their first home league fixture of the season, against Charlton on Saturday, to draw a clear line.
In a strongly worded statement, the club reminded fans of "the responsibility we all hold to represent the club in the right way" and stressed that "each and every supporter is an ambassador".
They did not dilute the message. West Ham underlined that "regardless of their background, every supporter within our diverse fanbase should also be free to enjoy watching their team play football without fear, discrimination or abuse", adding that they "remain committed to ensuring that everyone feels safe, respected and included".
The club acknowledged that chanting is part of the fabric of English football, calling it "a traditional and deeply embedded part of the matchday experience". They want that noise. They just want it channelled differently.
"We encourage our supporters to sing loud and proud about their football club and the players wearing the claret and blue shirt – but never in a way that creates division or causes offence among fellow fans," the statement continued.
Solomon, 27, has been capped 49 times by Israel and built his reputation at Shakhtar Donetsk, where he won three league titles in Ukraine before moving to England. He impressed on loan at Fulham, then helped Leeds win the Championship in 2024-25.
Now he starts a new chapter at West Ham, with the club making it plain what kind of backing they expect their latest signing – and everyone around him – to receive.
