Wayne Rooney Co-Hosts New Show Stick to United

Wayne Rooney is heading back into Manchester United’s spotlight – but this time, he’s sharing the stage with one of the club’s loudest online voices.

The former United captain will co-host a new show, Stick to United with Wayne Rooney, alongside influencer Mark Goldbridge as part of Gary Neville’s expanding Overlap empire this season.

Rooney meets Goldbridge

Rooney has already become a familiar face on The Overlap’s Stick to Football panel. Now he steps into a more United-focused role, fronting a dedicated show built around the club he defined for more than a decade.

Goldbridge, real name Brent di Cesare, brings a very different energy. His two YouTube channels – The United Stand and That’s Football – boast more than 3.8 million followers, built on viral rants, sharp reactions and unapologetically strong opinions. Clips of his post-match meltdowns and tactical tirades regularly race around social media.

Putting Rooney’s authority and Goldbridge’s raw fan voice on the same platform turns what was once a fringe fan channel into part of a mainstream football media project.

Neville’s Overlap steps up

The move comes after Neville bought Goldbridge’s channels earlier this year for an undisclosed seven-figure fee, folding them into The Overlap network he launched in 2021. What began as a long-form interview and punditry brand has steadily pushed into other sports, including cricket and rugby. Now it’s doubling down on club-specific content.

This season, that strategy gets heavyweight backing. A new distribution deal with Disney+ will see 50 episodes of Stick to United and 40 episodes of Stick to Football streamed on the platform. Neville has been clear about the aim: he says the partnership “expands our reach without compromising our identity”.

It’s a significant step for a project that started on YouTube and social channels and is now locking in a regular presence on a global streaming service.

From critic to curator

Neville’s move into fan-led content comes with an intriguing twist. He once took aim at ArsenalFanTV, branding the Arsenal-dedicated YouTube channel “embarrassing” in 2017 after supporters on the platform tore into Arsene Wenger following a 3-1 defeat by Chelsea.

That sparked a public spat on Twitter and eventually led to Neville appearing on the channel to explain his views. Seven years on, he now owns the biggest Manchester United fan platform and is putting the club’s all-time leading scorer at the centre of it.

The evolution is striking: from questioning the value of fan media to building it into a cornerstone of his own network.

Rooney’s growing media portfolio

Rooney’s schedule is filling up. Alongside Stick to United, The Wayne Rooney Show will return to BBC platforms this season, and he will continue in his punditry role on Match of the Day.

From the dugout to the studio, and now into the fan-media arena, Rooney is becoming one of the most visible voices around Manchester United. The only question left is how candid he’ll be when the club he loves finds itself under fire in front of millions of streaming viewers.
