Wayne Rooney Launches New Show with Mark Goldbridge

Wayne Rooney is stepping even further into the media spotlight this season, fronting a new Manchester United-focused show alongside influencer Mark Goldbridge.

The former United and England captain will co-host Stick to United with Wayne Rooney, a fresh spin-off under Gary Neville's rapidly expanding Overlap brand. Rooney is already a regular voice on the Overlap’s flagship panel show Stick to Football.

This latest move comes after Neville bought Goldbridge’s YouTube channels – The United Stand and That’s Football – earlier this year, folding them into The Overlap network as part of a major digital push. The fee was an undisclosed seven-figure sum, a clear signal of intent from the former United defender.

Disney+ steps in

The new Rooney-Goldbridge show sits at the heart of a significant distribution deal with Disney+. The platform will carry 50 episodes of Stick to United and 40 episodes of Stick to Football over the course of the season, giving Neville’s project a powerful global shop window.

Neville has framed the tie-up as a way to scale without selling out, saying the partnership “expands our reach without compromising our identity”.

Launched in 2021, The Overlap has grown quickly beyond football, moving into sports such as cricket and rugby. Bringing in Goldbridge’s channels adds a different type of fan energy to that portfolio.

From viral rants to mainstream platform

Goldbridge – real name Brent di Cesare – has built a huge online following, with more than 3.8 million subscribers across his two YouTube channels. His clips routinely rip through social media thanks to his explosive reactions and strong, often divisive opinions on matches and managers.

That style has not always gone down well with Neville. He previously took aim at ArsenalFanTV, another fan-led YouTube channel, branding it “embarrassing” after supporters on the platform tore into Arsene Wenger following a 3-1 defeat to Chelsea in 2017. The criticism sparked a Twitter row and eventually led to Neville appearing on the channel to explain his stance.

Now, though, the former right-back is betting heavily on fan-driven content, putting Goldbridge at the centre of his digital strategy and pairing him with one of United’s greatest modern icons.

Rooney’s growing media portfolio

Rooney’s media commitments are stacking up. The Wayne Rooney Show will return to BBC platforms this season, while he will also continue in his role as a pundit on Match of the Day.

From Old Trafford’s pitch to Disney+ and prime-time BBC slots, Rooney is no longer just a voice from United’s past. This season, he’ll be one of the loudest voices shaping how millions of fans watch and argue about the club’s future.
